Who leads this
James Correy.
Fifteen years in leadership development. Trained in systemic team coaching under Peter Hawkins. Running Holgate from Bensville, on the Central Coast of New South Wales.
My work has moved between government and private sector. Senior roles across the NSW public service. Team coaching at Sydney Metro, Australia's largest public infrastructure project, where I applied the systemic team coaching framework to leadership teams working on mandate, culture, KPIs, and stakeholder partnership.
The training under Peter Hawkins reshaped the practice. Most leadership development happens one person at a time. Systemic team coaching treats the team itself as the unit of change. That's where the value actually moves, and it's what I've built Holgate around.
Positive psychology coaching, trained under Valorie Burton, shapes how I work with individuals. John Maxwell Team certified in leadership. ICF-accredited.
The practice is direct. Plain language. Grounded in what's actually happening rather than what's comfortable to name. I work with leaders the way I'd want to be worked with.
"Honesty is kindness. The point is movement, not comfort." Holgate's working principle
What I believe
Direct work. Not consultant theatre.
Plain language. Grounded in what's actually happening, not what's comfortable. If you want someone to validate what you're already doing, I'm not the right person. If you want someone who will tell you what they see, and stay with you while you do something about it, that's the work.
I believe "high-performing teams" is the old question. The better one is: are you building a team that creates value no individual on it could create alone?
I believe conflict, when it's named and worked with, is one of the most generative forces a team has. Suppressed conflict is one of the most destructive.
I believe measurement, defined up front, is the difference between consulting and theatre.
