James Correy.

Fifteen years in leadership development. Trained in systemic team coaching under Peter Hawkins. Now running Holgate from Bensville, NSW.

My career has moved between government and private sector. Senior roles at Sydney Metro. Leadership development, team coaching, organisational capability work across hundreds of leaders.

In 2023 I trained under Peter Hawkins in systemic team coaching and applied the methodology at Sydney Metro. It changed how I think about team performance. Most leadership development is one-at-a-time. Systemic team coaching treats the team as the unit of change. That's where the value actually moves.

For the last six years I've also coached one driven founder 1:1. Sustained results, year after year. That single relationship taught me what coaching is actually for. Not inspiration, not frameworks, but the slow compound work of helping capable people stop being their own bottleneck.

Holgate is where those two strands come together. Team coaching as the primary work. 1:1 coaching for individual leaders who want structured, accountability-led work.

"Honesty is kindness. Help people move forward, not feel good about standing still." What I work on

Directly, without the usual consultant theatre.

I work with leaders the way I'd want to be worked with. Plainly, grounded in what's actually true rather than what's comfortable. If you want someone to validate what you're already doing, I'm not the right person. If you want someone who will tell you what they see, and stay alongside you while you do something about it, that's the work.

I believe "high-performing teams" is the old question. The better one is: are you building a team that creates value no individual on it could create alone?

I believe conflict, when it's named and worked with, is one of the most generative forces a team has. Suppressed conflict is one of the most destructive.

I believe stakeholder mapping is table stakes. Partnering with stakeholders is the real work.

I believe measurement, defined up front, is the difference between consulting and theatre.
